Emily Hunter Taylor is a native of Richmond, Virginia. At the age of eleven, she began apprenticing with a celebrated local ceramicist, Elizabeth T. Childrey. Mrs. Childrey was impressed and encouraged Emily to explore on her own. She began making everything from various animals to three-dimensional buildings and landscapes. The following fall at the age of twelve, Emily had her first booth at Mrs. Childrey's craft show, and it was a success.

At the age of fourteen, Emily got her business license and began selling ceramic tea sets and clocks to various stores in Richmond. She continued honing her sculpting skills and participating in local craft shows throughout middle and high school. While at a family friend's wedding in college, Emily--who also considers cake her favorite food group--thought the bride's cake was so beautiful that she must sculpt it. She gave the creation as a wedding present, and the bride was so ecstatic that she instantly commissioned one for a friend. Through word of mouth, Emily received more requests for the porcelain cakes.

After college, Emily continued to increase her client base in Richmond and develop the wedding replica idea. Her work has been featured in the following publications: Richmond Times-Dispatch, Virginia Living magazine, Richmond Magazine, Seasons Magazine, The Washington Post, and the Associated Press.

Emily has never taken any formal art courses, she is completely self-taught.
